Death Magnetic on September 12 and E-heads concert

Ah~ forgive the random postings… Still not in the mood to blog on more interesting things (or better… lack of it.) ^^

Anyways speaking of the music scene, Alicia Keys is having a concert today at the SM Mall of Asia Open Field. I heard from Howie Severino’s blog about her turning down sponsorship offers from tobacco companies… which in turn relates to the upcoming reunion concert of the Eraserheads (E-heads for short :P) which is sponsored by Marlboro.
I’m an in-denial E-heads fan. Aside from my Friendster profile, I never really declared any love for E-heads. First off, I never liked Ely Buendia’s voice. Among their contemporaries from the mid-90’s, I liked Rivermaya more, more so their then frontman Bamboo’s vocals.
But what I can’t deny is their songs were the staple of my childhood. Or maybe even Fluffy’s. He’s the last person I know to line up in rock concerts or gigs but when he learned about the reunion concert, I noticed a gleam of interest in his eyes. Then he asked me about Alapaap, one of E-head’s popular songs. And I began chanting the first notes until we both knew remember how it sounds.
So to make the story short, I’m looking forward to seeing the Eraserheads in concert. I have heard them live at least once at UP Fair (which I religiously attended for the 4 years I was in college).
I heard it was free. But. Unfortunately, the concert is only for smokers. Well, at least that’s how their sponsor markets the event. I followed a link to what supposedly informs interested people on how to avail of the concert tickets. But what I landed on was a membership-only Marlboro site. (And it says that you may only become a member iff you’re a Marlboro fan, errr… smoker.)
And needless to say, I’m dismayed. I’m not sure if I’d say my hate for smoking is greater than my love for E-heads but I guess that’s it. I won’t bother to attend.

I tried signing up too but then i had to answer all these questions about smoking and cigarettes. At first I pretended I was a smoker just so my application would get approved, then at the end, I found out I have to submit a scanned copy of my ID to prove that i was over 18 blah blah blah. I gave up finishing my registration. =/
@Joni: Hehe, so it’s a “smokers” event after all. *sigh* I don’t expect E-heads to be like Alicia Keys but it’s unfair for the fans who aren’t smokers.
I’ve already listened to two of the songs available in Death Magnetic. They’re better than the songs in St. Anger. One of the songs, The Day That Never Comes, is almost eight minutes long!
Still, it’s not as heavy as their earlier works, but a definite improvement.
Kinda strange idea — a free concert for smokers
p.s. Metallica rules! Death Magnetic is awesome.
