Where are the voices?
In wake of the terror caused by the abduction of a seasoned journalist and her companions, how come we are all keeping in silence?
Is it because we are talking of the Abu Sayyaf here?
Because we view the Abu Sayyaf as a lesser threat to our democracy and freedom than the military crooks? And they pale in comparison with the other notorious members and groups of the society? That anyway, at least, we have an option to pay ransom in exchange of the safety of those people’s lives?
Or we view their terrifying activities like a natural day-to-day occurrence? And just like air pollution, their existence can’t be helped? Or that we believe Abu Sayyaf are not mere insurgents, they’re terrorists and they won’t concede to rhetorics? And that we’d rather keep in silence than be defeated by the noise of our own complaints?
Where are all those voices calling for “Justice for this person and that person…”? I’m just so greatly appalled by the reaction (or lack thereof) of the people.
Cheers for democracy!
Slowly, my thoughts are reduced to thinking that democracy leads individuality that leads to apathy.
