Before anyone reacts violently and yell H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y in big bold red letters at my face for calling them sacrilegious and for making this comment over Sugoi Stuff, let me do it to myself. Yes, I've been watching those shows for around three weeks now.
I never got to see the original Marimar during its RPN 9 run. My goody grannies forbade me from watching TV. (And the truth is we never had TV until I was in 4th year highschool!) Although I can somehow predict the chronology of events in the remake's story, I still wanted to watch it. Perhaps I've been smitten by Marian Rivera's beauty. I mean she can shake those booties and do the salsa! Or maybe I just find Fulgoso (the talking Golden Retriever) utterly lovable (oh, I miss Moochie!). Maybe I'm experiencing the Mulawin trend? (I watched Mulawin because of Angel Locsin).
And being a part of the kids who grew to the generation Shaider, I thought it would be difficult for me to accept the show, same with what I felt with GMA's version of Lupin. Don't get me wrong, I do not glorify it. I think their space ships are made of plastic. The original Shaider has better special effects. It's actually the characters which I find interesting. I'd like to see Paolo Ballesteros in that slinky outfit as Ida. (I'm such a big fan of transvestites!)
I'm more of a Marimar than a Zaido fan, by the way.
Forgive my musings. But on my free time, I really don't have much choice. What makes the shows I mentioned easier for me watch is they're in Filipino language. They don't require my full attention 'cause I can understand them even if I don't look at the screen. Unlike when watching subtitled anime, you can't really get all those dishes and laundry done.
Now that I have Internet at home, I still watch/listen to Zaido and Marimar. Hehe. I AM blogging while the TV is turned on.

Ne, Yoru. You can label it guilty pleasure hehe
Anyway, I don't (and haven't) watch any of the two but not because I'm being a snob. I just don't get any TV time. Maybe I'll try to catch an episode each just to get impressions.
