Playing police

If there’s something I wasn’t able to do in one particular situation sometime ago, I thank God for giving me courage to tell off a cellphone burglar and feed him to the police yesterday.

Fluffy and I were among the crowd waiting for the train at the Ayala MRT Station. I was still weary from getting lost along the streets of Makati because I took the wrong jeep from Ayala. (Blame my wallet for not taking the taxi right to the Ayala-EDSA station where Fluffy was waiting.) We let the first train pass since we’re on the far side of the queue (if you’d call it a queue). Suddenly, a man shouted, asking another man nearby how the former’s cellphone got into the hands of the latter. I saw the latter handing the cellphone to the owner, denying the accusation that he’s a snatcher.

My guts told me to show my military ID to the accused, a boy who seem to be barely in his twenties, perhaps same age as my brother. Fluffy held the accused arms on the side, while I told him not to try to run away. Then we escorted him to the farthest side of the platform where the guard posts. Fluffy ran upstairs to tell the head security. When he came back, he was with the head security and a police officer. The complainant was willing to pursue the investigation, as recommended, and so we traveled to the Shaw Boulevard Station, where a police precinct exists.

At first, the boy was really persistent that he’s not a snatcher. Later on, after the interrogation, he finally succumbed and confessed that it was his second time to do the act (or be caught doing it).

I’m not sure what will happen if we chose not be involved in the scene. Actually, I never had a second thought about apprehending the culprit. The thought that Fluffy would back me up overcame that hesitation that he’d stop me from interfering with those people. It also never dawned on me that the suspect might be carrying some deadly weapon. 8-O I’m not sure if my uniform gave me the extra courage and authority to do it. (I was wearing my uniform since I went straight to Makati after our work in Aguinaldo.) I remember the time when the above incident happened to me and I was really scared. Well, it just felt good that we did something even if we’re already about to leave the service. And an extra nice thought that Fluffy didn’t bull me out after the incident.

Then we proceeded to Gateway Mall to eat dinner as my treat for my brother’s birthday. :) LOL. They might still be wondering how come they had such an adventurous family member.

Wow, you certainly do have hutzpah!

I’m not sure I’d have that kind of bravery… He might’ve been armed and dangerous!

Well, it’s good that it was overall, a positive outcome… but it could’ve been sadly different. O_O

Oh, wow. You’re so brave. I’ve seen cellphone burglars for more than 3x already. I even saw them while in the process of stealing. My voice never came out during those times.

Well, good job on doing such a good duty to humanity. People like that shouldn’t be allowed to get away.
