Friday nights are for staying up late

I’m not sure today. I’m feeling really lethargic even when the parade and those early-morning wake up calls to withdraw rifles from the “armory” and prepare for battle… err… formation were already over.

But this day was really special because I attended my first inspection with arms (rifle inspection) after 2 1/2 years of being in the service! I also can’t believe I performed siyasat in such a way that I won’t compromise my poise and be berated as a member of the minor gender in the troop.

Inspection Er, we have to admit that girls are physically weaker than the boys. When opening bolts of the M-16, we sometimes have to raise our right foot just to provide leverage. That doesn’t look so good. I must be lucky with that butt number 43 rifle since I opened its bolt the way we should normally execute siyasat.

Prior to that, I guess all of us were enthusiastic in cleaning our rifles. We withdrew the rifles from the armory at around 500H and then immediately started dismantling the parts that needed to be cleaned. Normally, we would go back to sleep and wake up when it’s already 630 or 700H.

The inspection went well. Except that nobody seemed to have memorized their rifle’s serial number. We were also asked about the names of the officers in position. Thank goodness, we already discussed that beforehand. For our succeeding inspections, the platoon sergeant advised us to memorize the serial numbers and perform open bolt properly.

Hm. I wonder how many more rifle inspections can I attend.
