I'm not so sure if it was Jenny who got me into adoring the characters from CLAMP's X. But one thing's for sure, back then, I really loved their artwork. Besides, the themes of their comics intrigue me. Don't get me wrong, I still love their work and I still gush over their shonen ai fan service. But I'm no longer that much of an otaku as I was, 3 or 4 years ago.
Jenny once lent me a VHS copy of X: The Destiny War, a theatrical release based on the manga, more of like a condensed storyline that predicts the final battle between the Dragons of Heaven and Earth. Although I wasn't too acquainted with the manga, the ending got me into tears. It was a sad story, and a sad ending. But I can't remember how many times I re-watched the movie.
I have unconsciously waited to I get to know more about this set of CLAMP's characters, until I heard about the existence of the X TV series some years ago. It was only last Saturday that I've seen the whole series.
Most of the anime series I've seen can be categorized into action-comedy with a little bit of a drama. X is different. Attribute it to the fact that the degree of drama (and the like) is among the factors that make X unique from others. It's set in a somber atmosphere. (Who wouldn't be? I mean, talk about the end of the world.) Only Yuzuriha's cheerful disposition and Sorata's almost comedic style neutralize the dismal scenes. The closest anime I could think of in comparison to it is Basilisk, in terms of story and Gunslinger Girl, in terms of the mood.
While watching, I was betting Fluffy would not like X. It's very dramatic and sad, and it's got hints of shonen-ai, typical of a shojo manga story. But he told me he would watch anyway. (I swear, he watches all types of anime, even the heinous ones, except ecchi and hentai.) And so I kept teasing him about spoiling the details. Obviously, I love the anime and I wanted him to watch it as well.
Why can't we kill humans?
Among the episodes I've seen, the 18th is the most special to me. It made me really cry when Yuzuriha's dog got struck by Satsuki's electric cables. (Perhaps because I just bathed my dog, Moochie that time. :D) More importantly, Satsuki posed a question quite similar to what my Philosophy professor asked me before. Why is it wrong to kill humans?
I felt like I was Yuzuriha whose inability to find the right answer caused the demise of her beloved dog.
To quote Satsuki, "There is a moralistic answer, an ideological answer or even a biological one. But none of them is the perfect answer."
However, I think someone gave the perfect answer.
"It's wrong to kill another human because someone out there will be saddened by his/her loss."
That's according to Yuuto and Kusanagi, who consoled Yuzuriha later. (Surprisingly, Fluffy gave the same answer when I asked him the question.)
Dramatic, isn't it? But it was beautiful, nonetheless.
But I am a little familiar with CLAMP and I love their stuff. Card Captor Sakura was so sweet 
Hmm I find it hard to comment on this entry as I am not really into anime. But I believe that it is wrong to kill someone because they deserve to live their life. I know that it sounds like I'm saying the same thing twice but if you look at it closely... it does make some sense.
