Cureless has moved in, has it?

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

I have moved into my new web host.

Wohoo! After several days (wait up, let me count those… 15!) of anticipating for my domain transfer, I’m finally in! Hah, I just have to recover those entries that weren’t backed up by the new host during the “interrupted” transfer several days ago.

Although I’m still quite agitated by the thoughts of the delay in the transfer, I can’t keep wondering at how amazing the web technology is. I was just browsing my site a few minutes ago and the domain was still pointing to the old web server. A few minutes later, I pinged the site from Kloth and it was already directing to the new host. :)

I just have to say my thanks and apologies to the people who got involved and affected by the migration. Thank you so much BigSkyMedia for the utmost support and to my old webhost Mobilehive who responded despite the inevitable change. Apologies to those who have seen errors, double posts, and a CSS-barren site just a while ago. I must also say sorry again to Empressbeck, my hostee who runs the very successful anime graphics site, 3Paradox who must have been shocked when nothing came up of her site that she was trying to update. I also lost some comments made by visitors.

Well, as swell that ends well. This change is for the better.

Local Absentee Voting for 2007 elections

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) promulgated Resolution #7797 (Local Absentee Voting policy) last 5 January 2007. In general, this resolution provides registered voters a way to cast their ballots in precints other than from where they got registered. The Overseas Absentee Voting policy caters to our fellow Filipinos abroad. Similarly, Local Absentee Voting benefits those who have failed to apply for transfer of residence in their working places or those whose voting rights are resticted by their distance from their home precints. According to Section 2 of the resolution, government employees, military personnel and the police, who are projected to perform election duties in their respective assignments are eligible for LAV.

I mentioned in a previous entry that our application for transfer of residence in order to vote is being contested for validity. Until now, the issue hasn’t been resolved yet. Thus, we may just appy for LAV so we can vote in May.

Compared to the normal election to be conducted on May 14, LAV will be held on April 28 - April 30. Aside from an earlier schedule, those who apply for LAV can only vote for the national positions, which include the 12 senatorial slots and the lone party-list slot. I’m not bothered by this since I’m not familiar with the political scene in Makati anyway. The deadline for those who want to avail of the LAV policy is on March 14.

Simplest way to an effective study habit

Disconnect your computer from the internet.

Need I say I completed a whole chapter yesterday because I restrained myself from not plugging in that evil LAN cable? Sheesh. I pray (hard) that I double my resistance to temptation now that there’s only 2 more weeks to go before the exam.

Issues on Technorati

Friday, February 9th, 2007

I got the badge from Kineda. The site uses Technorati links to categorize sites into A-List, B-List, C-List and D-List bloggers. Apparently, the more links you harbor, the more you become close to joining the A-List.

The Very High Authority Group [A-List Bloggers]
(500 or more blogs linking in the last 6 months)

A-List BloggerIn the final group we see what might be considered the blogging elite. This group, which represents more than 4,000 blogs, exhibits a radical shift in post frequency as well as blog age. Bloggers of this type have been at it longer – a year and a half on average – and post nearly twice a day, an increase in posting volume of over 100% from the previous group. Many of the blogs in this category, in fact, are about as old as Technorati and we’ve grown up together. Some of these are full-fledge professional enterprises that post many, many times per day and behave increasingly like our friends in the mainstream media. As has been widely reported, the impact of these bloggers on our cultures and democracies is increasingly dramatic.

I have never considered my blog to be among the bloggers belonging to the A-List. However, I can’t deny that my current blog’s high rating in Technorati is credited to the themes I submitted to Theme Viewer. People download my wordpress themes and the link to my site (Cureless) stays in their blog’s footer for as long as they decide to disrespect my request not to remove those links.

Nintendo Wii sold out in US stores?

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

Bad news for me who’s wanting to buy even just the controller. Fluffy’s bro works for a game store in Las Vegas just had a ‘game console’ conversation with him and spilled out the news. Fortunately though, the good news is he already has a Wii and he’s coming back in March. :)

Blogging momentum degenerated

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

What happens when you’re overly anticipating something then it turns out that you’re anticipating over nothing? Surely, most people would say they’d be disappointed. I myself am not very pleased with how my “supposed” domain transfer is taking place. The new host already migrated the data. And I was expecting to blog in my new space because I expected my domain would be transferred by the start of February. However, it seems like my current webhosting company hardly knows about it. I already notified them a month ago and I thought they’d be ready at least before January ended.

Sigh.

Btw, degen (degenerate) aura is Omni Knight’s passive skill in DoTA. When an enemy hero is caught up in this skill’s AoE, its movements slow down. Just to illustrate how it feels being degenerated.
