Scions of Fate - free to play and cute characters

Granted that I finished and barely understood the last chapter of my review book, I treated myself to a guilt-free MMORPG experience yesterday until today.

Scions of Fate (a.k.a. Yulgang: Balance of Power) is but another Korean MMORPG released by MGame, same company that brought Hero Online. With the end of its 3rd closed beta last February 5, its official release was made on the 7th. After Hero Online and Rappelz, this is our current Game of the Moment™.

Just like the previous games we've played, Scions of Fate promises an interesting start. The class of your character, however, is determined even before the actual game. There are five starting classes in the game - bladesman, swordsman, spearman, archer and healer. Apparently, the class names are based on the weapons used, except for the healer, which I dub as the staffman. You would enjoy selecting its class along with choosing which hairstyle and hair color would suit your taste.

Scions of Fate - Yoruchan is the character I named after myself :DI wanted a healer just like my defunct Rappelz character. Now, Yoruchan is the bearer of my frustrated dreams. Mainly a support hero to Fluffy's character - a bladesman, I'm boosting my healer's healing powers and improving the efficiency of its chi (mana) consumption. After running around blasting off bobcats at the start, escaping from aggressive wolves and 3-tailed foxes, hunting bosses for quests and enjoying fitting armors and weapons, Yoruchan is now level 17. Again, parties prove essential in finishing off quests and leveling up faster.

Much of Scions of Fate is similar to Hero Online. Perhaps the only striking difference lies in the character design. The likeness are enumerated as follows:

  • Story
    • Oriental theme
    • martial arts
  • Gameplay
    • Killing off monsters to level up and then complete quests
    • Enchantment/enhancement of items (armors and weapons included) using mineral stones such as Emerald, Sapphire, Ruby, etc.
    • Running errands to and from NPC's
    • Pet system
  • System Requirements
    • Not much - minimum is Pentium III

Scions of Fate - spiffy costume and petScions of Fate is free-to-play. Its company earns by selling nCash for use in buying spiffy in-game items. And while there's still company hogging the game's license in the Philippines, I'm looking forward to playing more of the game after the exams. :D (This is the time when playing will again become a great treat.)
