New voters’ registration revalidated
Around 800 people from our camp proceeded to the Commission on Election (Comelec) in Makati City yesterday to “revalidate” our voter registration (new/change or status/change of residence). It must be related to the Task Force organized by Comelec the against flying voters.
From inside the Comelec office, I heard that the reason why 800+ soldiers were called is because a party from the opposition (rumoredly PDP-Laban) filed a case against the army. They were probably suspecting us of being flying-voters, unknowing of the fact that we spend almost 24/7 of our lives inside the camp. In my case, I transferred my residence from Albay to Makati. Take note that I didn’t vote in 2004 because I was never registered in San Mateo (my current residence).
During the registration period, which ended by the way during the last week of December, I remember how long it took us to register in Comelec. I could understand if we are being pimped by the higher command to register. But I feel a strange and funny reason as to why some civilians here in Metro Manila are so eager to register. I didn’t experience the same in the province.
