Local Absentee Voting for 2007 elections

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) promulgated Resolution #7797 (Local Absentee Voting policy) last 5 January 2007. In general, this resolution provides registered voters a way to cast their ballots in precints other than from where they got registered. The Overseas Absentee Voting policy caters to our fellow Filipinos abroad. Similarly, Local Absentee Voting benefits those who have failed to apply for transfer of residence in their working places or those whose voting rights are resticted by their distance from their home precints. According to Section 2 of the resolution, government employees, military personnel and the police, who are projected to perform election duties in their respective assignments are eligible for LAV.

I mentioned in a previous entry that our application for transfer of residence in order to vote is being contested for validity. Until now, the issue hasn’t been resolved yet. Thus, we may just appy for LAV so we can vote in May.

Compared to the normal election to be conducted on May 14, LAV will be held on April 28 - April 30. Aside from an earlier schedule, those who apply for LAV can only vote for the national positions, which include the 12 senatorial slots and the lone party-list slot. I’m not bothered by this since I’m not familiar with the political scene in Makati anyway. The deadline for those who want to avail of the LAV policy is on March 14.
