What Typhoon Reming/Durian made me realize

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

As far as I am concerned I don’t want to talk about this typhoon. The news is everywhere and I think I’ve done enough rants regarding disasters such as this in the past. As usual, our province was affected. This time, however, severely.

I was still able to contact my uncle through mobile phone, that was probably prior to the fall of the SMART telecom tower in Legaspi City. He wasn’t able to check my grandparents’ condition in the town because even the access roads have been disabled. I tried to call him afterwards but I kept on hearing the busy tone.

Last night, Tul (my uncle) sent me his new Touch Mobile number. Obviously, he can’t use his SMART number for the meantime. I heard from the news that at least 2 SMART towers are broken near our area. I greeted my uncle belated happy birthday since December 3rd was his birthday. And then I asked again about the situation.

Ty. grabe man distroso ka mama. Naguba bodega, nakalupad su water tank, natangal atup sa kayun cr. Kami man idi, kaukay na sana natura raga sa pangpang sulung.

This was what he told me: Ty (thanking me for the greetings). There was severe destruction on Mama’s properties. The warehouse was broken, the water tank was blown away, as well as the roofs near the comfort room (cr). In our case, there’s a little land left on the riverside (their house is constructed near the river).

I wasn’t planning to go home this coming holiday. I could however imagine my how my grandparents are doing when the disaster occured. I couldn’t just stay here, and wonder how they’re feeling. It’d be impossible to let them come over during the holiday because of this near tragic event. This was really my plan but I needed to cancel it.

I already applied for a 3-day pass next week and I hope this gets approved.

Rappelz and carebears?

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

While waiting for the Rappelz update to finish, I must say that it’s currently our Game of the Moment TM. Call it a carebear game but it doesn’t matter. So far, we’re enjoying doing quests in order to level up. Unlike our previous game, Hero Online, we need to finish quests to level up and not kill monsters to level up, then receive quests. But we’re not totally dropping off Hero Online. We just took a time off after Fluffy’s character got into some bug. The Netgame peeps took around 1 month to resolve the bug, long enough for us to look for some other free to play MMORPG. We found Rappelz then, developed by GPotato same company who introduced Flyff.

I have some comments on the graphics though while I’m playing in Toshi (512MB RAM, 2.4GHz processor). With Hero Online, I play with minimum graphic settings and I don’t have complaints with the gameplay. With Rappelz however, I find it hard to explore the map with the minimun settings. I also had to upgrade my graphics driver to take off some mis-rendered graphics while playing the game.

But while I can still bear with Rappelz, I am quite excited after getting out of the Training Island for the first time. When you’re off the Training Island, it means you can already do PK (Player Kill) whenever you turn the PK mode on. I wanted to try this for once. In the games I previously played, you can hardly participate in PVP unless you achieve a high level. In Rappelz, once you turn 15, you can kill. :)

One more thing, while training for the first 10 to 12 levels, you can hardly die. So far, my character is 12+ and I only died once during our encounter with the Piranha Worm Boss. You really need to join a party in defeating boss quests. Fluffy and my team is good enough to defeat the boss the next time we saw it.

MlJERU is my 3rd character in Rappelz
Whoa, she’s in her undies, my newly-created character. :D Type /dance and she’ll do an ultra sexy dance move. The other sex on the other hand, does an ultra crappy move. Ugh!
