Love ye FTP

It’s already the end of the month. I could have declared my hiatus but neh… I’m just pretending to be busy in real life. I haven’t even spent a single day with my family during the two-week vacation span. Something that challenged my natural inquisitiveness and persistence arised in the office. The word “anime” was banned by our proxy. How bad could that be? Bad enough to induce my uncontrolled rage and emotional instability, grow adamantium nails and begin clawing the people at NOC (including the officer, yes even him although at some point we’ve been casual talkers).

I was at fault for downloading GITS (1st GIG), Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (at the recommendation of Kyameel), some episodes of Gunslinger Girl at a high bandwidth rate. But isn’t banning the word “anime” quite unwise? They could have just banned the culprit URL. As a result of this, we can no longer access any website with a word “anime” on it. No more AnimeNewsNetwork (where I get info on most anime) and even the anime Wikipedia articles.

But like I said, retrieving files from the site they have banned had become a challenge for me. Using those proxy sites was no avail. Even installing proxy and firewall bypassers did no good. But guess what worked?

SmartFTP. Ye old reliable FTP client. And thanks to the site where we download stuff. They use FTP servers. :) Now I can download my series again (currently downloading Jigoku Shojo) but I’ve kept in mind of limiting the bandwidth use. ;)
