Lazy I

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m quite afraid (but please, do not be) that signs of having a lazy eye is slowly manifesting on me. I’m actually imagining myself to be like Mad Eye Moody (of the Harry Potter fame). The medical term for this eye disorder is strabismus. But I’m not sure yet if it is indeed my condition because I haven’t consuted any eye specialist yet.

Some months ago, while doing stuff on the cellphone and lying on the bed without my eyeglasses, I just noticed that I was using my right eye alone. I usually find it hard to use the pair of eyes and focus on the tiny cellphone screen without lenses. What I do is move the screen very close to my eyes. My dad does this when using the phone and even I can say that the gesture is too weird for non-spectacled people. Since the screen becomes too close to either of my eyes, I no longer bother to use the other eye to focus on the phone. Just imagine covering one of your eyes and using the one left uncovered to see things. I guess that’s how one of my eyes (I’m not even sure which one) became “lazy”.

I didn’t discover this alone. One day Fluffy asked me “Banlag ka ba?” (Are you lazy-eyed?) (Banlag - Filipino descriptive term for people with lazy eye). Instead of getting offended I said “Talaga? Napansin mo yon?” (Really? Did you notice that?) then I laughed to the point of freaking out the guy.

According to wikipedia, one of the techniques in curing the disorder is applying an eye-patch. I hope I could visit the opthalmologist soon so I will know if/when I can wear that eye-patch. ;)

Oh no! Wearing an eye patch may be interesting at first… but then I’d think it would get a little annoying… maybe because I’m just too vain. :S

I hope that your condition will get fixed soon! Best to get a consult from your eye specialist first though.

I don’t know much about lazy eyes, but my grandma used to say it looked like I had one. I never really noticed, but I do have a cousin that has a lazy eye, but I don’t know if they ever did anything about it … But good luck getting in to see the eye doctor and getting diagnosed.
