Super ain’t duper
Shucks, what a lame title it is. But you bet, I’m be blogging about the recent Superman movie, Superman Returns.
It started with the credit info. While the trademark theme was played on the background, I had goosebumps, not to mention I was close to shuddering. My previous memory of Superman was that movie clip in my first PC taken from the Christopher Reeve-starring superhero.
I wasn’t acquainted much with Superman as with Batman, Spiderman or the other superheroes who were more popularized by animated series shown on the local television. No, I didn’t have the comics. I am even more familiar with X-Men.
However, I knew Superman IS the strongest superhero, probably the most powerful, and undeniably the most popular. From the myriad populace that went to see Superman Returns in the SM Mall of Asia were people aged 7 to 7×10. It told me a lot about the superhero’s fanbase - kids, mom & dads, grannies, sweethearts, cliques and more.
It was hard for me to label it under the usual categories. Wait, perhaps it should be placed among the likes of Spider-Man. A superhero movie. Unlike Spider-man though, Superman didn’t actually have a one-on-one encounter with the archvillain. Most of the action focused on Superman v.s. the disturbed nature instigated by Lex Luthor’s plans. The relationship between Superman, Lois Lane and her family made the movie even more dramatic than the standard superhero movie. Kevin Spacey’s Lex Luthor character and his circle of allies cracked me up sometime as his mistress’ character was intentionally annoying.
Speaking of Lex Luthor, I wouldn’t know he was played by Kevin Spacey haven’t I seen one of his disguises during the start of the movie. I was even wondering what’s his role in the movie after seeng his name last on the actors list.
It’s unfair to mention Kevin Spacey without mentioning Brandon Routh, who’s suits the role of a very good-looking superhero.
Overall, Superman Returns is a good movie. I would even consider it a romantic, date movie.
But ever since I saw The Lord of the Rings trilogy, hardly ever one movie did make such an impression on me.

I would definitely watch Superman over LOTR at anytime! Teehee. That’s cool that you said it was a romantic movie.. I shall find a hot guy to watch it with me sometime.
nice post!!!
but you are sooo wrong…..haha, spiderman IS the best superhero ever@!! haha
Frodo over Superman, deffo!
i guess i have a thing for little, curly haired, blue eyed guys.
my bf, says superman returns is a chick flick.
i reckon he’s just jealous.
I will definatly have to agree with you on that one… after Lored Of The Rings, no other movie has really made an impression. And yes, I would choose Frodo over Superman anytime.
