Hehe… we’re remotely org-mates now. ;^^ Well, not everyone is aware of the fact that most Filipino athletes are honorary government employees. Delegations sent overseas to represent the Philippines are funded by the government and not by private institutions. There may have been some kind of sponsorship but these athlete’s income are mainly provided by the government. Eugene Torre, the chess grandmaster for instance is in fact, also a reserved member of the Army (that’s according to my companion here who’s a chess guru)
