Ze Recognition

The recognition day that we vainly waited for five two months was held yesterday. Sa Wakas! (Finally!)

[addt'l] My workmate, Rad, has also updated his site regarding our training status. (But he posted the news before our (pre and) recognition rites…) [/addt'l]

The week that was… supposed to be the hell week…

Monday, we spend preparing for the drill with arms so we borrowed the M-16 rifles from the stock office. Tuesday, same thing I guess… and till Thursday…

Came Friday. We woke up to the hurried knocks on the door and we were told to form outside the barracks. It was 0400H (4 o’clock am). Surprise! 100 squatrushes, 100 pumpings, 100 squat-jumps, 100 jumping jacks… not to mention the 4 count 10, 12, and 20 GOOD repetitions of the army dozen. Hell, I was really unfortunate that time. I felt blood gushing on my underwear. The monthly period is on. But I didn’t tell the seniors. I’d rather be doing the exercise than sitting on a chair, in front of my classmates, watching them perform the army dozen X times.

My morale went from low to zero. At around 0600H, barely after the sun has risen, we were soaked with water. Just before that we were dripping in our own sweat. And then we crawled. I didn’t get the icky feeling while my lower body part was being soaked in the mud. (I felt that later.) If I survived the PFT, why wouldn’t I survive going round the parking lot three times (on my belly)?

When we took bath later that time, if only pouring all of the alcohol bottle’s content onto my bath water wouldn’t take too long, I would have done it…

The recognition rites…

The time was 1500H. If there’s one body part that’d probably turn the most unforgiving because of the sun’s heat, that would be my feet. We were given Tikas-Pahinga (Parade Rest) while the Commanding Officer was delivering his speech as our keynote speaker, but my feet felt like being heated on the oven toaster (while wearing the combat boots with metal protector in front).

The highlight of the program was the Recognition Rite itself, wherein the class formed a circle and waited for the “sacred” handshake of the entire personnel. I guess everyone was happy for us. Especially “my idol and everyone else’s ideal leader”. Hehe.

Next week…

Our recognition ceremony changed our status from “close collar” to “open collar”, meaning, aside from NOT wearing our BDA’s with closed collars, identifying ourselves first before entering a room, performing daily exercises, “trotting and rotting”, we are NOW authorized to relax and leave the office after working hours. We’re NORMAL personnel now. Yey~

And so the net life status goes…

I can positively say that I can probably (just probably) be very active online again. I just can’t promise that I’ll be active as I was before. During the past two months, I had Internet access everyday but I chose to hibernate because there’s just too much work, and inspiration was very scarce.

If I’ll have so much free time, here are my plans:

  • install WordPress 1.5
  • buy another domain and transfer my blog
  • upload art archives
  • design lots of W3C-compliant layouts

If I’ll have so much money enough funds, I wanted to:

  • buy my own server so I could try and host J2EE web apps
  • buy a dedicated DSL / line
  • create/build my own webhosting company (haha)
