The dreaded blue screen

The first and second time Toshi showed that blue screen was last Monday while I was trying to update the Yahoo! Messenger and Norton Antivirus. It was scary. o.O I am immuned to Windows 98's instability but that was really the first time Windows XP crashed in my own system. I remember last year when my friend Diane had me fix her Windows XP installation. The scanning system progressed like a turtle. And it was really scary for me then since I wasn't too familiar with the XP environment.

My cousin's husband, a sea-man came home with an IBM Thinkpad. It seems like he messed up with some of the system files, some of the icons are gone (the MSIE for example) and the drivers won't work properly. Tsk. I was hoping I could reinstall Windows XP but I haven't done it before. Need help.

Since this is a geeky post, I'd like to talk about the unused computer unit at home. And I'm planning to install Redhat Linux there. It's a Pentium II (upgradable to Pentium III) and the motherboard's quite old (circa 1999). I'm hoping Linux is not as resource whore as Windows... And I need installers. : )
