Snorkeling at Balayan Bay
It’s around 4 a.m. and we’re getting ready for our year’s ACP Class which would be at Bauan, Batangas… Gotta go…
A day later…
Snorkeling at the Balayan Bay, opposite the Anilao coast, was definitely a worthwile experience. The thousand peso bucks was worth it.
There are 7 of us from our course plus 6 people from ACIL. Seeing the underwater sceneries was breath-taking. I would definitely recommend this type of activity to other people who love nature. The experience was far from what I’ve had last year with the Lakbay Kalikasan people (7 Lakes of Laguna). It was more than just fun.
When I first dived and saw the sea flooring, it was a little scary considering that it’s almost 20 feet high. During our sea/beach excursions I never had reached that part of the sea deeper than my height. Of course, the scenery include a diversity of sea life - fishes, corals, crustaceans, clams, others. There were clown fishes, the Nemos, which according to our guide guard the reefs and attack when provoked. I saw this Nemo gliding towards me and I almost freaked out thinking it’d bite me. :O I was really afraid of those fishes even if they seemed harmless.
I felt in Philo terms, another Mysterium-Tremendum-Fascionosum - mystery, fear, and fascination. I felt amazement and at the same time, fear seeing those creatures in real life. Well, it was a first time experience. When the guide pointed me to a school of those black, medium-sized fishes they call Talakitok, I don’t know if I would swim away. They had this formation. It’s a swarm! (in RO’s terms) And you really won’t know what they’ll do next.
Really wonderful! Next year, we’re rooting for another experience, maybe the next level? Scuba diving. ![]()
